Aadhaar Amendment: The Supreme Court ordered a month ago that 12-digit unique ID “Aadhar Card” cannot be mandatory for availing services like banking or mobile SIM cards. Now, the Union Cabinet led by PM Narendra Modi has decided to tweak the Aadhaar law, just months after the Supreme Court’s order.
According to News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that the Cabinet has approved amending the existing laws related to uses of Aadhar Card just to provide legal backing for seeding of biometric ID Aadhaar with mobile numbers and bank accounts as an optional KYC. Source
